Bonjour!
| |
From the President...
Bonjour les amis,
The
summer is quickly fading away but the memories of our 30th Anniversary
will live on for a long while. My thoughts of all the events, day trips,
hosting a wonderful Frejus friend, Philippe, the dinners,
get-togethers, dancing, singing, the Bastille Day celebration, the
American Music Festival, the Giant Omelette and enjoying the friendships
new and renewed of a (very) warm Virginia summer will keep me cozy
during the upcoming winter months. Everything experienced took a lot of
teamwork and volunteering. I would like to thank our Sister City Board,
the host families, and all of the countless volunteers who gave their
time, enthusiasm, and hard work with outstanding results. And thank you
to the past exchange students from earlier years, the past Presidents of
Sister City, old friends, Mayors and new guests, who came to celebrate
with us.
I would also like to thank the visitors from Frejus.

Brun and his family, Andre and Sahlia Ollivier, Maryse and Philippe

a second language at an early age has a positive effect on intellectual
growth; enriches and enhances a child's mental development; leaves
students with more flexibility in thinking, greater sensitivity to
language, and a better ear for listening; improves a child's
understanding of his/her native language; and opens the door to other
cultures and helps a child understand and appreciate people from other
countries (Center for Applied Linguistics). About the instructorJenny

private school settings, as well as private instruction. She studied
French at American and French universities and has lived in

Extra, extra! |
We close this newsletter with two important items:
1. The first is the following quote from a past exchange student:
Hello there,
I was so happy to receive a Facebook message from an
old friend telling me about the 30th anniversary of the Sister City
Association! I was in the first group of kids that went to Frejus the
summer of 1981! I was one of the kids from King George High School that
went and I was also good friends with the couple of girls that came
from Colonial Beach High School. I thoroughly enjoyed my experience
being a part of the Sister City Association, staying with my host family
(Magali Jean) and staying at the student house in Paris. We did so
many wonderful things and I have great memories of the trip! Magali
came to stay with me the following spring.
I would love to be kept in the loop about the 30th anniversary
celebration. I signed up for the newsletter and also joined the group
on Facebook. I just wanted to touch base with someone involved with the
Association to give my info to! I graduated from KGHS in 1983, then
WVU in 1987, and I have been living in the Richmond area since 1988. My
info is below. I have an 8th grader that is taking French this year in
Hanover County, and I have told her many stories this year about my
trip to France!
Thanks and good luck with the celebration in July! I hope I can come and be a part of it!

2. This summer Annie Deschamps from Frejus was inspired during her stay here to write two poems
about Fredericksburg and Frejus. Enjoy! http://www.fredericksburgfrejus.org/annies-poems
